Users review: Maybe I like this movie because I have had such expectations underground for it. From the outlook, and, indeed, only the title, I am sure it is going to be stupid rather than funny.But I went to dinner with my friends on Saturday night, after dinner, in my chagrin, everyone had a reason to bail in the evening, and I found myself alone, at 9pm, do nothing, and do not want to go home. So I went to play roulette movie theater. Hot Tub Time Machine playing almost immediately, and the next movie wouldnt be convened as and when about 45 minutes. I * almost * turned around and went home, I was so sure that this film would be stupid rather than funny. But I figured, what the heck, I'm here ... Also, the film * is * stupid. But its funny too. And whats more, know its stupid and makes no bones about it. At no time has it ever takes itself seriously. Now, I could have done without some very large pieces. Fortunately there are not too many of them **. And I'm sure I did not get all the references to the 80s, though I do not live in that time, I usually avoid popular culture at the time, and still couldnt say a lot of big hit songs or bands of the time (or you today, for that matter). But I admit, the movie did not make me laugh. Not all over, but I have a number of genuine laugh-out loud moments. And a lot of chuckles and smiles. And I find myself really liked the characters, and found them to be a little deeper than I expected from a film called Hot Tub Time Machine. And the underlying theme of the loss of zany, free-form fun people, and lament the boredom of adulthood are relatively staid theme that resonates me.Now, let us get real. This is not Citizen Cane, Vertigo, or The Godfather. Nor is such a timeless masterpiece comedy Airplane, Trailblazer Saddles, or Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Someone here is trying to show gross injustice compared to classic 30s comedy, but obviously this is not being Happened One Night, Bringing Up Baby, or Duck Soup, and if you go to the theater expecting to be, The fault lies in you. What is it silly fun, in a way, is enjoyable to pass a few hours. Not deep, not profound, not great. Not ever, not enduring.But not bad. And not nearly as stupid as it looks like it is going to be. And these days, thats not too bad.
