Users review: Greetings again from the darkness. Big dilemma: I'm a sucker for a court drama vs I am not a fan of Matthew McConaughey. I decided to try it, and given my low expectations, I found the film quite entertaining - even though many disadvantages. If you are a fan of the endless stream of John Grisham's book-turned-movie, then I expect that you will find this on your taste.Based Michael Connelly novel series built around Mick Haller, this in a sense has the look and feel of one. Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, named because of the tendency to deal with many of his classic work from the back seat of a Lincoln Town Car. Selection McConaughey as Haller looks all together wrong given his annual appearance in some lame ass Rom-Com, where he spent most of every movie shirtless and smirking. Luckily for us, Mr. McConaughey managed to recapture some of the acting skills he flashed in A Time to Kill, ago.In years and close to a vest in Haller, the film works because the actors are so deep that includes Marisa Tomei as his ex-wife and frequent adversary in court (he's There), Ryan Phillipe as rich men accused, William H. Macy as long as the street and a private investigator, Josh Lucas as the main cause in Ada, Bryan Cranston as the detective in charge, and Michael Pena , Bob Gunton (the warden from Shawshank), John Leguizamo, Frances Fisher, Laurence Mason (Earl driver), Shea Willingham (Empire Avenue), Trace Adkins (country star biker gang leader) and Michael Pare (Eddie and the Cruisers). Seriously, this actor allows each scene to be something worth watching. The two things that prevent the film from being world class is beyond belief exaggerated moments (including about 3 too many ends) and perfectly highlights the director of Taken courtesy of Brad Furman. In the hands of a more experienced director can be many drawbacks corrected. This not presented as an ultra-serious court drama in the vein of 12 Angry Men or Judgment at Nuremberg. Rather, it is a character-driven story with many twists ... Some of them work and some of them dont. I found it quite enjoyable though the script and direction issues hey-look-at-me.
